1966 AMC Other 440

Description

We are selling out rare 1966 Rambler American convertible after 31 years of ownership.  I restored this car in 1992 and entered it in the AMC Nationals Convention where it won second in class.  Since then it has been driven a few hundred miles a year and stored in our garage.  I has been maintained in excellent condition.  Actual mileage is only 45,000.  (The odometer reads 16,000 and is a replacement).  199 cu. in. engine with 3 speed column shift.
The car was completely restored in the 1991-1992 time period.  The original color was Apollo Yellow and it was repainted Antigua Red.  The interior and top are black.  The original black vinyl seats were in bad shape so we installed factory accessory seat covers.  All chrome was replated to show quality.  New carpets, top, well liner and trunk mat were installed.  All new door and trunk gaskets were installed. The undercarriage was nicely detailed.
Mechanical restoration included:  new front and rear springs, four new shocks, new clutch and pressure plate, new power steering, rebuilt carburetors, new tie rods and idler arms, new trunions, new exhaust, new upper and lower control arm bushings, rebuilt hydraulic convertible top pump, electric wipers installed, recored radiator, new water pump, set of 5 factory correct Firestone Deluxe Champion 645x14 white wall tires.  The tires only have about 1000 miles on them but there is some cracking at the white walls.  The power steering has a very minor leak but works perfectly.
The car has virtually every available factory accessory for the 1966 model year:   wire wheel covers, tissue dispenser, accessory seat covers, Rambler logo seat belts, push button radio, factory-correct antenna, 4 way flashers, power steering, stainless rocker molding trim, remotely controlled drivers mirror, matching passenger mirror, hand held spotlight, accessory vanity mirror on passenger sun visor, compass, all 4 accessory bumper guards, electric wipers, accessory key fob, glove compartment light, front courtesy lights, door edge guards, license plate frames.
The 199 cubic inch engine is one of AMC's finest designs and it runs great with no issues.  The car drives beautifully - extremely quiet and quite fast.
The undercarriage is very clean and presentable.  The brakes are excellent.  Suspension is tight and smooth.  The hydraulic top works perfectly.  These are very rare cars - total production was only 2092.
This car has never been for sale in the last 31 years.  We are located in Rochester, New York.  It is completely licensed and insured and registered.  The ownership documents are all in order.  Please come to inspect and drive the car.   Factory repair manuals will accompany the car.  My reserve on the car is far less than our investment.  J.D.
